JMC travel, booked via Thomas Cook, May-June 2000
We were interested to see how JMC compared to our previous carrier. Living just outside Birmingham, England, we were lucky to pick up one of their flights. The pre flight book in went smoothly, the wait at Birmingham International Airport was comfortable too, helped by the fact that the flight went off to schedule. The welcome to your seat routine was fine. Being tall I was pleased to find that the leg room was adequate. The airplane we had was an old DC10 and sorry to say it showed its age, with a few panels coming loose and some ill fitting luggage compartments. The in flight entertainment was ruined by the audio not working for 4 hours despite continued complaints to the cabin crew. Once fixed it was OK, the films were fairly recent and the choice of radio channels was fair. The food was reasonable, with a couple of choices. The service was good and the cabin crew were overall friendly and attentive. The in flight progress from the Captain was OK and he managed a good landing at Sanford. That's were it all went wrong. We queued at Immigration for nearly 80 minutes, not what you want when you are bursting to get on with the holiday - maybe JMC could do a bit of lobbying on our behalf? So in summary, JMC flight was OK, comfortable and I've experienced a lot worse. 6 out of 10.

Various departure airports arriving in Sanford-Orlando Airport.

Reviews....

Premair Economy Class.
I travelled from Manchester to Sanford last September. After boarding the plane an hour late, I then had to wait another hour and a half on the runway as, supposedly, there was no co-pilot available. The movie was Notting Hill and every time it got about 3/4 hour into the film it stopped and started again. 5 hours later the film finally came to an end! The food was really awful and drinks cost about £1 each and were tiny. Toilets were downstairs with queues on the stairs, which mean't children had to be carried. I thought this was very dangerous and an elderly couple next to me were too scared to use these (in)conveniences. The plane took a very strange route which added a lot of time to the flight. The only bonus I found was that it was quite easy to 'hack' the video system/computer so that the 'PremAir Gold' videos were shown as well.
1/10 (1 for actually getting there)

Virgin holidays

Various departure airports arriving at Orlando International Airport or Miami.

Reviews....

We have travelled with Virgin to many destinations, mainly Florida, over the last few years and have never had a major problem. The main reason we use them is their flights with Virgin Atlantic. They are very comfortable, you are looked after very well and you get all the benefits of being on a scheduled flight. The hotels that Virgin use are of a high standard and hotels usually roll out the red carpet for Virgin guests. Virgins frequent flyer programme is good too, after three holidays you are entitled to free car upgrades, discounted holidays, free room upgrades and a few other things. All in all, like I said, we have never had any real problems with Virgin and we would recommend them always. 9 out of 10.

Over the past 12 Years we have flown on 4 different carriers to Orlando and Virgin Atlantic gets our vote for the best alround service although I must say I think both American Airlines and Delta were very good if you dont mind an indirect route. If you travel Two or three times in a one year priod then as a member of the frequant flyer scheme you get silver status, this allows you to check in at the premium economy desk even when you travel economy, so check in takes 5 mins not over an hour, but the best service they offer is the check in at Downtown Disney from 9.30 am giving you the whole day with no cases, its like having an extra days holiday just go to the airport an hour before your flight. Good selection of films (own screen), foods usually good, flight attendents very helpful.

I was very impressed with Virgin Atlantic. Very clean, nice food, no plastic cutlery or cups! The stewards were very friendly and helpful. We left Gatwick Airport 10 minutes late but landed on time. The best thing about this flight was that I checked in early and arranged for an 'exit' seat to ensure plenty of leg-room. I did not really have to bother as there was plenty of legroom on all seats. My children all recieved a back pack with colouring books, etc., sunglasses, hat and other bits and pieces. The travel pack had lots of things in including socks, eyeshades, Virgin Vie lip balm, 'smints', a pen, notepad and other bits and pieces. The actual bag it came in made a brilliant smim-bag to wear like a rucksack and take to the beach/Disney. Drinks and ice-creams are free throughout the flight and the entertainment was well above average with lots of audio channels as well as visual channels. A choice of 8 movies are shown continuously on the seat-back tvs throughout the whole flight. Headphones are free. On the return journey, only 115 people were on the flight, this enabled every person to have a row to lie down on and sleep for the whole journey. We left on time and arrived early. To be honest, I would never fly with any other airline now (well, unless I was paid a lot of money :-) overall rating 10/10 - very impressed indeed. Also early check-in is available on the last day at Downtown Disney (which is free to park at). This saves having to carry suitcases around all day and no queue at the airport. Also kids meals can be chosen and requested before all flights. A list of all movies are shown on Virgin's website. www.virgin.co.uk (yvetteb)
